This policy describes BlueBlunder's current practices and the categories of services the site may enable. A named service is not necessarily active. The consent banner and the “Services currently enabled” section should be treated as the current operational record.

This is a practical draft, not legal advice. It must be reviewed against the final vendor configuration before analytics, advertising, affiliate tracking, session replay, forms, accounts, email subscriptions, payments, or embedded third-party content are enabled.

BlueBlunder is the publication responsible for this website. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to blueblunder@blueblunder.com.

Services currently enabled

  • Vercel hosts and delivers the website.
  • The light/dark theme control stores a preference locally in the visitor's browser.
  • The article-discovery controls store up to 200 article slugs locally in the visitor's browser so Random Article and related-guide suggestions can prefer unread articles. This reading history is not sent to BlueBlunder or a third party and can be cleared with the browser's site-data controls.
  • No Google Analytics, AdSense, Microsoft Clarity, Sentry browser monitoring, email subscription, account system, or approved affiliate tracking is currently enabled in the repository. The coloured advertising and recommendation boxes are layout previews only; they do not load ads, tracking, or merchant links.

This list must be updated when a service is deployed.

Information that may be handled

Depending on the services enabled and the visitor's consent choices, BlueBlunder and its providers may handle:

  • Contact information and message content when someone emails BlueBlunder.
  • IP address, approximate location, requested URLs, referrer, timestamps, browser, device, operating system, language, network information, and technical logs.
  • Page views, sessions, navigation paths, link clicks, scroll or engagement measurements, campaign parameters, and aggregated performance measurements.
  • Cookie, device, advertising, consent, or pseudonymous identifiers used to distinguish browsers, remember choices, attribute referrals, measure advertising, limit fraud, or cap ad frequency.
  • Advertising interactions and inferred interest categories supplied by advertising partners.
  • Affiliate-link clicks, merchant or campaign identifiers, and information a merchant returns about a qualifying transaction. BlueBlunder should not receive the visitor's full payment-card details from an ordinary affiliate link.
  • Error diagnostics and performance information, potentially including the route, browser state, stack trace, and technical context surrounding a failure.

Do not send BlueBlunder passwords, payment details, health information, government identifiers, or other sensitive personal information.

How information may be used

BlueBlunder may use information to:

  • Deliver, secure, maintain, diagnose, and improve the website.
  • Understand readership, content usefulness, traffic sources, site navigation, and technical performance.
  • Develop editorial plans and evaluate whether content answers readers' questions.
  • Measure affiliate referrals, advertising delivery, advertising performance, and site revenue.
  • Personalize or limit advertising where the visitor has made the required choice and the configuration permits it.
  • Respond to messages, corrections, privacy requests, and commercial enquiries.
  • Detect abuse, invalid traffic, fraud, and security incidents.
  • Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims and comply with legal obligations.

Depending on the jurisdiction and context, processing may rely on consent, legitimate interests, steps requested by the visitor, contractual necessity, or legal obligations. Consent can be refused or withdrawn where processing relies on consent. BlueBlunder does not claim an unrestricted right to use personal information for unrelated purposes.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking services

BlueBlunder expects to use Google Analytics 4 for audience and content measurement and Google AdSense for display advertising. If enabled, Google and other third-party vendors may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies can enable Google and its partners to serve those ads. Visitors can manage personalised Google advertising in Google Ad Settings and may find additional industry opt-out controls at YourAdChoices.

When an advertising vendor is actually enabled, this policy and the consent notice will identify that vendor and link to its privacy information. BlueBlunder will not treat the planned service list below as a live vendor list.

BlueBlunder may also use:

  • Google Search Console, which reports search visibility and does not require a visitor-side tracking tag for ordinary use.
  • Vercel Speed Insights for aggregated performance and Core Web Vitals.
  • Sentry or a similar service for error and performance diagnostics, configured to minimize or scrub personal information.
  • Microsoft Clarity or another behavior-analysis service only after a separate necessity, masking, retention, and consent review. Session replay is not part of the initial recommended stack.

Non-essential analytics, advertising, session-replay, and affiliate-tracking tools should not load until the required consent state permits them. Google Consent Mode communicates consent choices to Google tags; it does not replace a consent banner.

Cookies, local storage, and consent

The theme control stores blueblunder-theme in local storage on the visitor's device. The article-discovery controls store blueblunder-read-articles for the limited purpose described above. Neither preference is sent to BlueBlunder.

Analytics, advertising, consent, and affiliate providers may set or read cookies or similar storage when enabled. BlueBlunder will use a consent-management platform to describe purposes and vendors, record choices, block non-essential tools where required, and allow visitors to revisit their choices.

If AdSense is enabled for visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, BlueBlunder will configure Google's CMP in AdSense Privacy & messaging with the required IAB Transparency and Consent Framework support. The live vendor list and cookie details should be generated from the reviewed consent configuration rather than guessed in this document.

Affiliate networks and merchants

BlueBlunder may participate in programs operated by Amazon, AliExpress, Temu, travel-booking services, software providers, and other merchants relevant to published articles. Affiliate links may contain identifiers that allow a network or merchant to attribute a visit or transaction. Those parties operate under their own terms and privacy notices. If Amazon Associates is activated, BlueBlunder will display the required statement: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”

Mentioning a network in this policy does not mean it is active. Current program decisions are recorded before deployment, and articles must visibly disclose qualifying relationships.

Sharing

Information may be handled by hosting, analytics, consent, advertising, affiliate, communications, security, and monitoring providers for the purposes described above. It may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect the site and its users, investigate abuse, complete a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards, or establish and defend legal rights.

BlueBlunder does not sell personal information for money. Some privacy laws may define certain advertising or cross-context data disclosures as “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising even when no money changes hands. Where those rules apply, the site should provide the required notice and choice through its consent or privacy controls.

Retention and security

Information is retained only as long as reasonably needed for the stated purpose, site administration, security, legal obligations, dispute handling, or provider configuration. Each service has its own retention controls and defaults; these must be recorded in the internal vendor register before activation. No internet service can promise absolute security.

International processing

Providers may process information in countries other than the visitor's own. Their contractual, organizational, and legal safeguards govern those transfers where applicable.

Privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, or a choice concerning targeted advertising or certain data disclosures. You may also have the right to complain to a data-protection authority.

Send requests to blueblunder@blueblunder.com. BlueBlunder may need enough information to verify and respond to the request. Consent choices should also be changeable through the site's consent control once tracking is enabled.

Children

BlueBlunder is general-audience informational content and is not directed to children. The site does not knowingly ask children to submit personal information.

External links

External sites have their own privacy practices. Opening a link may disclose ordinary request information to the destination, and an affiliate destination may receive attribution parameters described above.

Changes

This policy may be updated when the site, vendors, business model, or legal requirements change. The updated date above shows the latest substantive revision.
